Is there a difference between probation and parole?
Yes, there’s a very big difference. Probation is an alternative to prison. Parole is a shortened amount of time which is being spent in prison. When you are sentenced to probation, you are able to suspend your jail time in exchange for certain terms. Those terms can be like checking in with a probation officer on a regular basis, attending rehab, attending your job, and school. Parole is geared towards helping people complete their criminal sentence outside of jail if they’ve already completed a portion of their prison sentence.
