THE BEST LAWYER ANYONE COULD ASK FOR.

The BEST LAWYER ANYONE COULD ASK FOR!!! Todd changed our lives! He’s not JUST a lawyer representing us for a case. Todd and his office have become Family. When we entered his office in August of 2022, we entered with such anxiety, uncertainty, and so much stress. Honestly we were very lost. My husband and I felt alone. How could a lawyer who didn’t know us, know our family, know our background represents us, When this could change our lives for the next 5-7years that my husband was facing in Federal jail. By the time our free consultation was over with Todd, we left his office at ease. All our questions were answered and we had a sense of relief.

Hiring the Right Lawyer for a Drug Conspiracy Charge

By Jane Doe
Being charged with drug conspiracy can be really scary. It’s a serious felony charge that can lead to years in prison if convicted. That’s why it’s so important to hire the right lawyer to defend you. Here’s some tips on finding the best attorney for your drug conspiracy case:

Look for a lawyer with experience

You’ll want to find a lawyer who has alot of experience specifically with drug conspiracy cases. This type of law can get pretty complicated, so you need someone whose familiar with how these cases work and the strategies to fight them. Don’t just hire any criminal defense lawyer – find one whose handled alot of federal drug conspiracy charges before. Look for one whose been practicing for 10+ years.

Find a lawyer who specializes in federal cases

Most drug conspiracy charges are federal, meaning their tried in federal court and carry harsh mandatory minimum sentences. So you need a lawyer who knows federal law and procedures very well. Many state criminal defense attorneys don’t have much federal court experience. Make sure the lawyer your considering specializes in federal cases.

Look for someone aggressive who’s not afraid to go to trial

Since the stakes are so high, you want a lawyer who will aggressively fight for you, not someone who just wants to plead out. Find an attorney with a proven track record of taking drug conspiracy cases to trial and winning. Avoid lawyers who always recommend taking a plea bargain. You need someone whose willing to fight for an acquital if thats whats best for your case.

Find a lawyer you feel comfortable with

This is your life on the line, so you need to feel totally comfortable with the lawyer your trusting it with. Make sure its someone you feel you can be open and honest with who will listen to you and answer all your questions. You want an attorney who makes you feel confident they’ll handle your case right. Go with your gut feeling.

Look for someone with resources

Drug conspiracy cases often involve alot of evidence and witnesses. You want a lawyer who has the resources and manpower to fully investigate your case. Big law firms have teams of paralegals and investigators to help them dig deep into the facts. A solo practicioner may not have enough help. Make sure they can devote the resources needed to build the best defense.

Just had my Divorce case settled 2 months ago after having a horrible experience with another firm. I couldn’t be happier with Claire Banks and Elizabeth Garvey with their outstanding professionalism in doing so with Spodek Law Group. Any time I needed questions answered they were always prompt in doing so with all my uncertainties after 30 yrs of marriage.I feel from the bottom of my heart you will NOT be disappointed with either one. Thanks a million.

Alex Zhik contacted me almost immediately when I reached out to Spodek for a consultation and was able to effectively communicate the path forward/consequences of my legal issue. I immediately agreed to hire Alex for his services and did not regret my choice. He was able to cover my case in court (with 1 day notice) and not only was he able to push my case down, he carefully negotiated a dismissal of the charge altogether. I highly recommend Spodek, and more specifically, Alex Zhik for all of your legal issues. Thanks guys!

I don’t know where to start, I can write a novel about this firm, but one thing I will say is that having my best interest was their main priority since the beginning of my case which was back in Winter 2019. Miss Claire Banks, one of the best Attorneys in the firm represented me very well and was very professional, respectful, and truthful. Not once did she leave me in the dark, in fact she presented all options and routes that could possibly be considered for my case and she reinsured me that no matter what I decided to do, her and the team will have my back and that’s exactly what happened. Not only will I be liberated from this case, also, I will enjoy my freedom and continue to be a mother to my first born son and will have no restrictions with accomplishing my goals in life. Now that’s what I call victory!! I thank the Lord, My mother, Claire, and the Spodek team for standing by me and fighting with me. Words can’t describe how grateful I am to have the opportunity to work with this team. I’m very satisfied, very pleased with their performance, their hard work, and their diligence. Thank you team!

Beware of lawyers making big promises

A good lawyer will be honest about the challenges in your case, not promise you the moon like getting all charges dropped. Avoid attorneys who gaurantee certain results or who pressure you to take a plea deal right away. A trustworthy lawyer will carefully evaluate the evidence before making recommendations.

Find an affordable lawyer

Hiring a private criminal defense attorney is expensive. Rates for experienced federal lawyers can be over $500 an hour. Find someone whos fees you can realistically afford. Ask if they offer payment plans or discounted rates. Some lawyers are willing to negotiate their fees. Don’t go broke trying to hire a lawyer.

Check their reviews online

Do some research before choosing a lawyer. Look for reviews on Google, Avvo, etc. to see what past clients say. Beware of lawyers with alot of negative reviews. Look for ones with mostly 4-5 star ratings. You want an attorney who other clients recommend.

Ask about their success record

Any good lawyer should be able to tell you their win-loss record on drug conspiracy cases. Obviously, you want someone with alot more wins then losses. Ask the hard questions about how often they’ve gotten charges dismissed or reduced and how many trials they’ve won. Don’t feel bad about grilling them on their track record.

Meet them in person

Always meet with the lawyer in their office before hiring them. You want to size them up face-to-face. Pay attention to how they communicate and if they seem trustworthy. Make sure their office looks professional. Go with your gut feeling after meeting them.

Find a local lawyer

Hire a lawyer who is licensed in the state where your being charged. Out-of-state lawyers can’t represent you in court. Plus, a local lawyer will know the prosecutors and judges which can help. They’ll also have a good reputation with the court.

Compare a few options

Interview several lawyers before deciding. Compare their experience, track records, fees, etc. Talking to multiple attorneys helps you make the best choice. Never hire the first one you meet – take your time researching all the options.

Negotiate the fee upfront

Always negotiate the lawyer’s fee and get it in writing before hiring them. Fees are usually negotiable. Ask what’s included and avoid lawyers who nickel-and-dime you with lots of add-on costs. Get an itemized list of their fees for everything. Make sure theirs no suprise charges later.

Ask about their caseload

You don’t want an overburdened lawyer who doesn’t have time to fully work on your case. Ask how many active cases they’re currently handling. Sometimes public defenders handle hundreds of cases at once. Look for a lawyer with a reasonable caseload who can devote sufficient focus to you.

Make sure they listen to you

Pay attention to whether the lawyer genuinely listens and lets you tell your whole story. You want an attorney who shows real interest and asks lots of questions. Beware lawyers who interrupt you or seem distracted. Find someone who actively listens and cares.

Don’t choose based on ads

Slick TV commercials don’t mean a lawyer is qualified. The best attorneys get clients through referrals and reputation, not ads. Do your research to find someone good, don’t just pick the lawyer with the flashiest marketing. Focus on skills and experience, not sales pitches.

Read online reviews

Research lawyers on sites like Avvo and Google before choosing. Read through the reviews from former clients to get an idea of their experience. Look for lawyers with mostly positive reviews. Beware those with low ratings or alot of complaints. The reviews can give you great insights.

Ask trusted people for referrals

Talk to people you trust who’ve hired criminal defense attorneys before and ask who they’d recommend. Other defendants are a great resource for finding lawyers. Friends or family who are lawyers can also give good referrals. Don’t rely solely on online reviews.

Communicate regularly

Once you hire a lawyer, make sure to stay in frequent contact with them. You need to be kept in the loop on your case. Respond promptly to their calls and emails. Don’t go long periods without some communication. Ask your lawyer to update you regularly on the status.

Be proactive about your defense

Don’t just sit back and wait for your lawyer to work on your case. Be proactive in helping build your defense. Let your lawyer know of any witnesses or evidence that could help prove your innocence. Offer to track down records or documents if needed. Speak up if you disagree with their approach. This is your case too!

Educate yourself on the law

While your lawyer handles the legal strategies, educate yourself on the basics of federal drug conspiracy laws. At least understand the charges against you and potential penalties so you can discuss intelligently with your attorney. Don’t plead guilty to anything you don’t fully understand.

Be honest with your lawyer

Always be totally upfront and honest with your attorney, even about embarassing or incriminating facts. Anything you tell them is confidential, protected by attorney-client privelege. If they’re caught off guard by damaging evidence at trial it could sink your case. Don’t hold anything back – your lawyer needs to know it all.

Provide records and documents

Give your lawyer copies of any records or documents that could help your case like phone records, receipts, emails, etc. Also provide contact info for supportive witnesses. Helping gather favorable evidence shows your taking an active role in your defense. Don’t wait for them to track everything down.

Show up prepared to meetings

Come prepared to meetings with your lawyer with documents, notes, questions, etc. Time with your attorney is valuable, so be organized and focused. Having your thoughts in order helps the meeting be more productive. Being scatterbrained wastes time and money. Show you’re taking it seriously.

Don’t miss court dates

Never miss or be late to a court appearance with your lawyer. This leaves a terrible impression on the judge and can badly hurt your case. Jot down every hearing and trial date in your calendar. Arrive early – better to wait around than walk in late! Your punctuality shows your taking things seriously.

Dress appropriately for court

Make sure to dress neatly and conservatively for court appearances. No shorts or tank tops. The judge will take you more seriously if you look respectable. You want to look mature and professional, not like a punk. Your appearance can influence how the court perceives you.

Mind your body language in court

Be aware of your body language when in court. Sit up straight, don’t slouch or fidget. Make steady eye contact with the judge when speaking. Nod politely. Avoid dramatic reactions even if the news is bad. Your demeanor can affect the impression you make.

Stay off social media

Don’t post anything about your case online while its ongoing. Don’t complain about the judge or prosecutors on Facebook. Don’t discuss details publicly. Social media posts can come back to bite you. Lay low online until its over. You don’t want to accidentally say something that hurts your defense.

Don’t talk about your case

Aside from your lawyer, don’t talk to anyone about the details of your case while its pending. Anything you say even casually could get back to the prosecution. Keep quiet about the facts and evidence. If friends ask, just say your lawyer is handling it and leave it at that. Loose lips sink legal ships!

Don’t lose your cool in court

No matter what happens or what is said in court, do not lose your temper! Always stay calm and composed. Yelling or causing a scene will just make you look unstable. Let your lawyer do the talking. If the news is bad, keep your reaction muted. Freaking out hurts your case big time.

Trust your lawyer’s advice

Listen carefully to your lawyer’s advice on whether to take a plea deal or go to trial. They know best based on their experience and the specifics of your case. Don’t disregard their recommendation lightly. Ask questions if you’re unsure but usually its best to trust their judgement. That’s what you’re paying them for.

Understand the process

Educate yourself on the basic court process and timeline. Learn what discovery is, how pretrial motions work, what to expect at trial, etc. Having some understanding of court procedures will help you discuss your case intelligently with your lawyer and prepare for what’s coming. It often moves slower than people expect.

Respect the prosecutor Even if the prosecutor seems against you, always be polite and professional when interacting with them. Antagonizing them will just make them less likely to give you a good deal. Kill them with kindness. Having a good rapport with the prosecutor is to your advantage. Don’t take things personally.

Accept the outcome gracefully

If you ultimately lose at trial, accept the outcome gracefully. Yelling or causing a scene in court will just make it worse. Thank the judge sincerely for their time. Appeal calmly if possible. You’ll come across better by being composed, even in defeat. Lashing out solves nothing.

Appreciate your lawyer

No matter the outcome, thank your lawyer sincerely for their hard work on your case. They fought for you zealously. Send a thank you note after. Even if you lose, they still worked tirelessly on your behalf. Appreciate their efforts – you were fortunate to have good representation.
Hiring the right lawyer to fight your drug conspiracy charge could be the difference between prison and freedom. Take your time researching all the options thoroughly. Interview multiple attorneys before deciding. Look for someone experienced, aggressive, and affordable. With the right legal representation, you have a fighting chance of beating these challenging charges. The stakes are high, so choose your lawyer wisely – it will impact the rest of your life.
